Have you ever been in love and inspired by Paris but wanted a modern home?
Have you ever walked through HARDWARE RESTORATION and just couldn't take your eyes off from the simplicity of the rich and classic design?
If so, likely you like many of the 21st century are in love with a fusion of contemporary and traditional design.
Being born in Eastern Europe I fell in love with brick, pavers and the sparkle of crystal chandeliers. Growing up in the Northwest, I learned to love big wooden beams, river rock, and sharp edges of contemporary design that took Seattle by storm.
So I longed for a fusion of ever changing contemporary design and the classic traditional.
I turned my attention to history of New York Loft houses. Originating in 1940s and 50s, these raw, cold and stark commercial conversions with their expansive floor space, their high, bright ceilings and low rents were perfect for striving artists, musicians and sculptors. No one wanted to live in these buildings of SoHo and Tribeca neighborhoods of Manhattan, NY then. But as artist would hold their exhibition in the buildings, wealthy art-buyers that came to the shows, fall in love with the spaces, buy and develop the spaces. Currently some of these lofts sell for 1.5-50M.
So what is so special about these Manhattan Lofts? Well the list is long - high ceilings, large spaces, brick walls, large windows; and most recently the fusion of traditional exterior and modern with hint of traditional interior.
So how can this be utilized when designing a living space?
